    That you build it big can i understand. Comfort is nice. But why build iy so heavy? It limits you more than the size. The bending of the frame can you also solve with the wall construction. Then you don't need to ad all those mettal strips. Greetings Emiel.

    How do you get the compost out when you want to use it?

    • @dazthecowboy
      @dazthecowboy 4 місяці тому

      You don't use the matter inside of the unit. As new matter is always being renewed onto of the old stuff. The worms break down the oldest matter very well. What you are left with is a liquid that drains from the unit and feeds a nominated area. This system worked very well for the few years I had it.

    • @JohnGBeckett
      @JohnGBeckett 4 місяці тому

      @@dazthecowboy At some point doesn't enough matter build up that isn't broken down into liquid? What did you transition to after the vermicomposter?

    • @dazthecowboy
      @dazthecowboy 4 місяці тому

      In a system that size. With two adults. I calculated that it would take between 15 to 20 years of normal use to have the unit filled to a point where you would consider replacing it or emptying it. I built mine so I could easily drag it out and slide a new container in. The old one would then sit for an additional length of time to allow the newest material to be broken down further. You could then use it as regular composting matter.

    For the size of your camper 100kg is very low it depends on what material you use for the walls roof. The same applies to linear actuators, they are cheap but 4 of those are heavy. Now you need bigger battery and motors may be even solar on the roof with a charge controller. It seems every gadget to cope with the extra weight adds weight itself.

    Double-axis needs a vertically flexible tow-bar. See the implementation of @WOODIBIKER | DIY+ in his with double axis. See for example 'Erste Testfahrt Fahrgestell - DIY Fahrrad Wohnwagen'

    • @DIY-Bamboo-Trike

      @DIY-Bamboo-Trike I would be curious to see if independent suspension would offer the same thing.

    • @pamojja
      @pamojja 4 місяці тому

      @@dazthecowboy independent suspension would only help against lifting of tires from the ground with too soft suspension, probably too difficult to navigate. And more difficult to implement. Think it through: with lifting of tires due to uneven ground, the brakes or engines (probably needed for such a huge camper easily above 100kg range) wouldn't work when needed.

    • @dazthecowboy
      @dazthecowboy 4 місяці тому

      There are off-road campers here in Australia that use a rather simple independent suspension system. It would still be a heap of work. But I would be interested in seeing if it would scale down. Though. It would triple my build cost lol. Maybe I could do it later.

    • @pamojja

    Wow that is a long drawbar. Have you compared the weight of steel to aluminium? It is not being towed by a car and you are not pounding the off road areas at 60 to 100 kph so aluminium would handle the work and I believe be lighter. Maybe not light enough to matter but weight adds up. I know some people who used to make gyrocopters using aluminium. They did not weld it. That creates weak spots. But they bolted it all together with a technique that keeps it all strong. They could have welded steel but weight matters. I would probably be using 20 x 40 mm aluminium box section with 2.5 to 3 mm wall thickness. Drilling bolt holes close to the walls keeps strength for reasonable bolt torque. I would weigh a length of steel you used vs the aluminium I suggested before making a change though if you were to consider it. I get that starting again is not likely for you; but weight matters. I cannot stress that enough. Also some fabricators of coaches and motorhomes use a composite sandwich of lightweight insulation between 2 walls of something like fibreglass. It is about 13 to 15 mm thick and surprisingly light. It is bonded onto the frame with sic-a-flex which is often used in building projects. The product is a complete insulated wall or roof with minimum work required for a structure like yours. Lastly though I do not mean to criticize but I do not like how your wheels are mounted. They cannot rock to keep weight equal at all times on both tyres/wheels {on same side}. I might also be inclined to try to find tyres with flat surfaces for more contact. {Motorbike sidecar tyres come to mind.} Round surface tyres are really to accommodate the leaning that bikes do and would wear out on turns {and general use} faster in your trailer application. I would also consider looking for more puncture resistant tyres than pushbike tyres. Hope this information is helpful. Thanks for the video. I hope it is all you want it to be when finished however you build it.

    • @dazthecowboy
      @dazthecowboy 5 місяців тому

      Thank you for the information. I appreciate all input. You never know what someone may have to offer. It does really help. I went with steel as it was what I had laying around and very accessible where I am. Everything you see here is just tacked on so I can test everything. The wheels are just some I had from old kids bikes. These are not the wheels I'll use for the final caravan. I am hoping I could maybe do disc brakes. It all comes down to cost really. I'm less concerned about weight.

      @@dazthecowboy Do you have any sketches for the caravan itself? I have so many questions such as mattress and features and unloaded weight. I'm thinking about all of your potential issues such as wind drag, the ability to collapse the size of the caravan, etc. At first I thought what if you had telescoping/locking vertical supports so that you can drop the height of the caravan vertically into a lower height for travel, assuming a hard shell design of some kind. This could also be beneficial in terms of creating windows/light slits by raising it higher, and having more of a privacy mode/sleep size by lowering the roof as an adjustment. Then I thought what if it was really more like a tent or an insulating blanket given form by a skeleton with a camping grade tarp for the rain. Then I thought what if you used some kind of carbon fiber fold up material, maybe even something that opens up like origami. It's a cool project. Look forward to seeing the direction you take this in.

      @peppermintpig974 I don't have any sketches unfortunately. I only have a mind's eye of what I want to do. My idea is to keep as much to typical caravanning as allowable. But downsized for bicycle touring. My plan is to keep the weight as low as possible. It's going to be more about the journey. Not the destination. So, no aerodynamics. Just ride slow and enjoy the journey and the people looking at what an idiot I am.

      I would say the biggest was not insulating the system straight away. I lost a batch of worms due to the heat. The next, would be I had the taps in the wrong position and flooded the system at one point. Other stuff up's are just a long list of silly little things.

    Does all of your grey water from the sink/shower/etc go through your vermicomposting tote? Thanks for these vids

      Thank you for watching. Yes, you only have to be considerate of what type of cleaners you are putting down your drain. But, everything goes through the vermicompost. Most eco friendly products should be fine.

    I have landyachtz switch. Would that it be possible to use it for luge? Thanks

      You can luge just about anything you can sit down on. Your board might be a little harder to corner with being more slender than a standard luge. But, it would be doable.

    Thanks for the videos...what trucks and wheels do you like to use? Thanks again :).

      I still run independent trucks. I modified mine to suit my style of riding. Flywheels or Orangutans are my choice of wheels.

    Hey guys I have a few questions on how you guys built this bike. I'm wanting to and planning to build one of my own and would like to know how you guys did it

    • @dazthecowboy
      @dazthecowboy 2 роки тому

      A lot of engineering went into this build. It might not look like it. But it was more work than I could simply explain.

      @@dazthecowboy thanks for the input. I've taken a couple of screen shots to try to envision how you guys built the frame connected to the swing arm. And I supposed you guys pretty much made a bracket holding the bottom of the engine from the rear and somehow attach that to the swing arm as well. I'm not sure although if your using a spring or not or if there is a fixed support bar of some sort in place where a shock/spring would normally go in the rear for the swing arm and rear wheel assembly support. Also I'm supposing for the front you modified the mounting for the steering and the triple tree. I wonder what forks did you guys use? They look after market and really sturdy.

      @@alvinvue8910 First. For obvious liable reasons I do not recommend building a 1000cc mini motorcycle. Second. The bike has front and rear suspension. The bike other than wheels and some fairing has very little in the way of stock parts. Most of the bike is custom built and has been reinforced to compensate for the extra forces.

      @@dazthecowboy I understand. I'm looking into more of the 600cc range. I'm only looking at this option as I'm a short rider and I'm looking into purchasing a bigger bike in the 300-600cc range but I'm worried about height and weight so I need to be able to plant both my feet on the ground to feel comfortable.
